Meet our Bishop

Bishop Marilyn Mitchell Porcher

Bishop Marilyn Mitchell Porcher is a “spiritual daughter” of Holy Rock Temple of God Church where she was baptized and received the baptism in the Holy Spirit at the age of ten. She is the biological daughter of Overseer Mary Fordham Mitchell and Deacon Elijah Mitchell, Sr. She is a native of Wando, SC and attended Cainhoy Elementary and High School in Huger, SC during the seasons of school segregations, graduated in 1965. Bishop has seen this community transformed from a rural area with a single lane dirt road, majority African American families to a diverse social, cultural, economic, ethnic, and religious groups. 

Bishop Porcher provides leadership as well as exercises ministry and administrative responsibilities to Holy Rock Temple of God a Bible believing, Christ centered, and Spirit led Church.  During Holy Rock’s 62nd General Assembly on August 21, 2016, she was selected and consecrated as the church first female Bishop.

  She is a servant leader and educator engaged in preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and conducting various biblical teachings and classes. During her seminary studies and pastoral work, she traveled to the mission fields of Zimbabwe and Uganda, Africa as well as Haiti and Guatemala.

A believer in lifelong learning, Bishop Porcher is a graduated of Allen University in Columbia, SC with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education, holds a Master of Divinity Degree (M.Div.)  with a concentration in Pastoral Care and Psychology of Religion from the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, GA and earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree (D.Min.) from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio.

Bishop Porcher is married to her childhood sweetheart, Elder Robert Porcher, Jr who is her partner in life and ministry for fifty-two years. They have two adult children, one deceased son, and three grandchildren.

Meet our Pastor

Pastor Terry A. Shaw Sr.

Pastor Terry A. Shaw Sr. is a native of Wando, South Carolina. He is a graduate of Cainhoy High School. He graduated with honors in 1982. Pastor Shaw worked in the auto collision industry for over 35 years. He received a certificate of theology from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia in 2004. Currently, he is pursuing an associates degree in Leadership in Ministry at Grace Christian University located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pastor Shaw has a heart for helping those in need, those who are lost, and those who need salvation. He is married to Cynthia Shaw. They have been married for 32 years and have been blessed with two adult children, Tempest and Terry Shaw Jr. God has also blessed them with two adorable grandsons, Grayson and Ashton . His desire is to continue to let God use him to make a difference in the body of Christ.

Cynthia Shaw

Cynthia Shaw is a native of Wando, SC. She graduated with honors in 1985 from Cainhoy High School. She received a certificate of theology from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA in 2004.

Robert Porcher, Jr.

Elder

Retired third Pastor of Holy Rock Church, where he currently serves on the Elder’s Ministry. He is a Veteran of the United States Marine Core and an alumnus of Allen University holding a B.S. Degree in Physical Education.He worked for 38 years with the International Longshoreman Association, Local 1422 where he also served as Vice President for ten years.

A life member of Holy Rock Church. Graduate of SCSU with degrees in Home Economic and Master’s in Nutrition Sciences. Retired after 31 years of employment with Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service.

A member of Holy Rock for over 40 years.  A 1989 graduate of Wingate University, Wingate, NC. Proud to serve as the Hospitality Ministry Chair. Our committee  works diligently to provide excellent care to our church family during their time of need, bereavement, or just a friendly hello!
